Notes: This recording has caused much confusion but, I am pretty sure the info here is correct. WLIR-FM had a great Tuesday night concert series of which this was a part. This recording is direct from my master tape of that broadcast.
Unfortunately, WLIR often gave little to no information on the shows themselves, and seemingly, what information they did give was not always accurate. This show was stated as being from the Beacon Theatre, NYC in 1985. It appears the band never played the States in 1985, let alone The Beacon, so that kills that theory…
After listening to the recently seeded April 1, 1984 Savoy Theatre show, and doing some side by side comparisons, this IS NOT the same show. Most notably, “Do It Clean” is vastly different. There are some other subtle nuances too. Ian introduces “The Killing Moon” here, while the band just breaks into on the April 1 recording.
As often, WLIR edited the most concerts to fit into the one hour allotted fer the program, therefore the gig is incomplete, but judging by the setlist, and crowd, I am going with this as the March 31, 1984 Savoy show. It is almost certainly so, but I left the “Beacon 1985” in the title to let ya know the info as given by WLIR, with hopes we can get some confirmation on it. The 3/31/84 show does exist, according to the EATB recordings website…
* Aside fer a tape flip during “Crown of Thorns”, and a minor drop out or two, this is an “A”…maybe an “A+”. I always loved this one…now that it’s transferred, you can enjoy it as well…
