I bought this CD from a Men Without Hats fansite in the mid-1990s - unfortunately I can't remember the name of the website or the seller, but perhaps other MWoH fans might recall some of these details. The packaging is truly excellent (I've included scans of the artwork, but I doubt they do justice to the original) and that plus the combined rarity of the music and the high quality of the sound impressed me greatly. This is what I can remember about the original source recordings: the "ROY" demos were allegedly taken directly from a demo tape which was shopped around to various record labels in 1980. The 1984 rehearsals were supposedly recorded on the very first day that the band gathered for the "FOE3" studio sessions. Not technically demos, and not a rough mix of the final versions, but truly something unique that bridged the gap between the two. A few of the highlights: - The unreleased tracks "Gravity is My Enemy", "1999", and "Rhythm of Youth" are just as good as anything on the band's first two records. - An ultra-fast version of "Living in China". - A much faster (and longer) version of "Ban the Game", as it was later performed on the widely-distributed Montreal 1985 video and audio bootleg. - An unreleased instrumental fragment, entitled "Ou Sont Mes Men". The original CD had a bonus track, "Editions of You (Heavy Guitars Mix)" - unfortunately I couldn't seem to extract it from the CD. Sorry!
