Comments: Decent-sounding recording from the Police's stop in Chicago on the current North American leg of their reunion tour. I enjoyed this show much more than the dates I caught on the summer swing; the band seemed more comfortable with each other and appeared to have more energy; Andy's solos in particular were much more inspired than on the dates I caught last year. I think the changes to the setlist (Bring on the Night, Demolition Man) helped with the flow of the show, though I can't remember the last time I spent $100 for a show that lasted less than 100 minutes. Were it not for Elvis Costello's inspired opening set, I think I would have felt that I overpaid. The recording is not the best, but is serviceable. My wife and I were miserable in our seats near the back of the 100 level during Elvis' set, next to a married couple who easily had a combined weight of 600 pounds -- the man next to my wife spilled over into nearly half of her seat. After enduring an hour of violation of our personal space, we relocated before the Police set to the section immediately behind the soundboard, which had not been sold to the public. Until a couple of chatty fans snuck into the row behind us during the encore, there was literally nobody within 15 feet of me, which leads to a welcome absence of crowd interference. The down-side, of course, is that I was pretty far back, and great sound at Allstate Arena is less common than latte at a biker bar. The sound is a bit muddy though overall all of the elements are decently balanced. I did my best with Audio Cleaning Lab's EQ settings to reduce the +1 kHz range to eliminate the muddiness and increase the higher bands to balance the treble, but overall this is still obviously an arena show that sounds a little flat. This is certainly not the best recording of this show, but since nobody's posted it yet, I thought I would put it up for the completists. The sound is roughly on par with the recent post from Buffalo -- listenable, and good to have if you were at the show and/or want as many dates as possible from the tour, but not great. Mp3 samples are attached so you can judge for yourself. Dimeadozen.org: Torrent 198759 (by ademotte)
