Guitar Warm-Ups [6:26] 11. Going Down South [6:51] 12. Unknown Song [3:29] Total: [49:59] Notes: Soundcheck from Kansas City show. U2 tries some new (??) material during the soundcheck. Decent sound, not much known about this recording, despite the constant interruption of the taper talking about everything and nothing. Some skips from the taper. 1 . The beginning reminds me of the intro to Zooropa a little. Bono sings "Can you ever dream?" repeatedly. Lots of guitar and pretty cool overall. 2. Some new song (??) that sounds like a cross between The Refugee and Sunday Bloody Sunday from a drumming standpoint. Bono sings some lyrics ("It's cold in here, it's cold out there(??)". Starts off as a jam based around the Fly riff and somehow turns into what is obviously an early early version of Zooropa. 3. Bono talks about the intro to Zoo Station while the rest of the band fiddle away on their instruments. 4. Practicing Zoo Station. Bono forgets the words and makes up some strange lyrics. This is a mostly instrumental version. The last two minutes are some fans talking about someone getting fired. 5. Edge (??) solo on guitar plays an unidentifiable song, Bono joins in later and sings some lyrics "On a sunday night". 6. Band plays a little but of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses. 7. Bono wishes happy birthday to "Anne" and the band plays a little part Angel of Harlem and When Love Comes to Town. 8. Edge plays a really catchy riff (for some reason reminds me of that song "Breakfast at Tiffany's", so take from that what you want) with Bono singing some lyrics "I didn't know better". 9. Starts with Edge fooling around on guitar (sounds like a combination of Zoo Station intro and Touch...). Then Edge plays the opening of Zoo Station a number of times. According to the fans taping this soundcheck, the band (all except Edge) has left the stage at this point. 10. Continuation of Zoo Station intro with some different guitar sounds. Then Edge practices Until the End of the World. A series of guitar warm-ups, not much to listen to here, but the fans discover that the confessional booth is set up next to the field. 11. This song can be heard in the Salome Outtakes. The working title for this song was Going Down South. Full band with Bono singing some lyrics. 12. Full band playing a new song (??) with some lyrics by Bono. Fast paced with heavy guitar sound. It slows down toward the end. One of the Salomé outtakes. Overall an interesting listen. Some cool new material from U2 as well as some interesting variations on existing songs. There is quite a bit of talking done by the tapers but it doesn't seriously detract from music. I listened to this on my computer at work which has really crappy speakers, so I can't comment fully on the sound quality. You can hear all the parts easy enough (drums, guitar, singing, bass, etc.). Hope this helps. Note from the encoder : the two last songs are windy.
