Beckman History: OKMII Classic> Sony TCD-D3 DAT> 2nd gen DAT Clone (S.K.)> Terratec EWX24/96 Soundcard> Optical> Sound Forge 4.5> CD Wave> MKW> SHN [CD-R (?)> EAC Secure> FLAC Comments: Although this is an unknown gen CDR, I ripped with EAC and have listened to this multiple times and found nothing that sounds like errors. But if anyone wants to upload the original SHNs that would be great. Also, achtungbootlegs.com notes that this was taped by S.K., but I think that the S.K. refers to Sascha Kremer as the transferor, not the taper. The taper would be S. Beckman, not Sascha Kremer. This is an amazing Zooropa recording. The clarity and closeness could not be better. Equal, or close to, to my 5/11 recording. The treble is a bit high (I wonder if Sascha remastered this in the process) and there is a little bass distortion once in a while (very very little), but otherwise fantastic. I'd say that at least for part of the show the left channel comes through louder, likely due to how the taper was standing. The band was still a little rough at this point, not having played for an audience in over five months. During "One," Bono either forgets the lyrics or gets distracted. This was also the party night, Bono's 33rd birthday, and Edge sang "Party Girl" followed by a "We Love You, Bono" song. The Edge's guitar, perhaps mistakenly, seems like it has some kind of effect on it for "Satellite of Love," and so it sounds kind of weird. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" contained a bit of "Johnny Was," as it would as well on the Elevation tour, and Bono jumps the gun a little on the final verse, resulting in a different sounding, more low-key final verse that finally built back to the normal riff (I am sure it was accidental but it sounded pretty cool). MacPhisto calls a travel agent in what becomes a pretty humorous phone call. This show was the only show to end with "Are You Lonesome Tonight," instead of "Can't Help Falling in Love," followed likewise by the Elvis version over the PA. All in all, a good show.
