Adam and Larry start out jamming. Then the band play Mysterious Ways, With or Without You, The Fly (5x), Pride, Even Better Than the Real Thing and Elevation. Bono stops the second attempt at The Fly: 'What the fuck is that? I don't know if its the building or venue, but that's a long stretch from being music. "After playing The Fly a third time he says: 'The bass still sounds sick. It's impossible to comment on. It sounds so crap. Adam?' Adam replies: 'I think it's just the nature of the buildings. It's very hard to get sound in them.' Later, Bono claims it sounds like "nasty fish soup' and continues: 'I think we should have a bass like, what's his name in The Jam?' Edge jumps in with: 'Bruce Foxton?' "You know the dude,' Bono responds, 'He had no arse. He had no arse, but he could play the Tacoma Dome. One more try then let's put a bullet in its head. "Tacoma is one of the longest shows on the tour, with 23 songs played. The entire Evans family, including The Edge's parents are in the arena and Bono dances with two of Edge's children during various songs. Early on in the show, Bono makes a couple of quick references to Seattle, but though the show's in Tacoma which is close by. Before Stuck in a Moment Bono says: 'Thank you for coming out, thank you. I know we're not in Seattle, but this is kind of Seattle, isn't it? Seattle has something that unites this city with Dublin. Something very...something that unites the two cities. Dublin, where we come from and Seattle. Something very deep and profound. And that is...the rain. The rain and the port. And all the most extraordinary music always came out of the water and the ports. Whether it's sailors spinning records or punk rock bands swapping tapes, we're happy to be travelled to Seattle, let me tell you. Gone, like Stuck in a Moment, is again dedicated to 'Hutch'. Bono misses the cue for the first verse and forgets some of the lyrics. He improvises a few lines: '...so badly, honey you kind of slip your life away, cheating in love, like no one told you, till there's nothing left anyway, goodbye, you can keep this suit of lights... Sunday Bloody Sunday is a band and audience co-production. The Edge starts out loud in the opening instrumental bit, bujt he turns it down when the crowd starts chanting the whoa-oh-oh-oh part with fervour. Bono lets the crowd sing a few bars, then takes over and The Edge turns it up again. During the "Get Up, Stand Up" part the crowd provides a great backdrop to Bono's singing, as they clap in unison. Bono improvises: '(whispering)stand up, show me now, stand up, shake it on down, (singing) get up and stand up for your rights, get up stand up, stand up for your rights, get up stand up, got to do what's right, get up stand up, stand up for your rights, yeah, on the streets of Seattle, stand up for our rights, on the streets of Washington, stand up for your rights, on the streets of Belfast and Derry, stand up for your rights...' Toward the end of In A Little While Bono says: 'We also do weddings! Check it out, it's kind of a lounge thing.' At the very end Bono dedicates the song to the Evans family. Bono improvises a whole verse of Desire: 'I'm going to take us out of here, before you give your love to me. I'm going to start a rock n' roll band, 16 years old and a plan, I'm going to take it to the USA, going to Seattle and I'm never going away, bringing along your punk groups, want to...want 'em there in the soup...the soup...' The song is dedicated to '...anyone starting a rock band, a punk rock band, or hip hop, that was for you.' During Walk On, the images that are usually displayed on the audience by the 'PiGi' projectors can also be seen on the Tacoma Dome's white spherical roof." Notes: From the standpoint of bootlegs of this concert...achtungbootlegs.com lists two versions, We Also Do Weddings and one taped by J. Takeuchi, but this may be a third version...not rare, since if you stick it on your PC and check the on-line bootleg database, it is recognized. I have not found any cover art which precisely corresponds to this version. I have posted this because I really like the sound...very full, lots of bass, clear music and talking...there are several brief spots where those surrounding the taper obviously could not keep their emotions and voices under control, but it does not in any way, IMHO, reduce the quality of this. As this is the only version I have, I cannot tell you how it compares to the other versions in circulation. It is conceivable that someone here will be able to provide background taping information. Maybe it is one of the ones referenced at achtungbootlegs.com, with tracks split differently. U2Torrents: Torrent 1530 (by petergoode)
