Notes: hi folks, another one from the vaults. this time it's U2 from the Walbühne 2001. before the show a big thunderstorm blessed the city. I was soaking wet, when I arrived at the venue with my bike. the scheduled support "Söhne Mannheims" was cancelled (thank god!!).
instead of them stand-up comedian Michael Mittermaier was brought up. it was told that he got the phone call for this show in a cab on his way to the airport and he alone entertained 22.000 people for about half an hour.
I was standing in the middle of the heart-shaped stage. as my mics are sued into my jacket I had to stand still to avoid sound fluctuations as everybody around me was turning to Bono or the Edge, whereever they performed on the stage. I guess I was the only one not moving. this was no stealth recording! it was obvious to all my neighbours... as I got several requests for copies after the show!
Bono did the Mark Chapman rap during Bullet The Blue Sky. It still send shivers down my spine!! A great moving moment of rock!!
this is a very good audience recording, for my taste too much audience clapping, but that's what it was like!
