After the civility and intamacy of the Royal Albert Hall I tackle a U2 stadium show trying to reprise my success of 1987 and 1992. I recorded this with EasyEd who ran his source to my left. We arrived at 4:30 and I got on line. Glad I had a ride so I didn'y have to pay $40 to park. $40 to park wtf is that all about? I had my gear hidden and had some food with me. They took my food and drinks so they could rip me off inside. I truly hate Oakland venues, no wonder the A's, Raiders and Warriors struggle, the venues are not fan friendly. I was in early enough to get in the inner circle but too crowded so I went for a good spot in the regular GA area. Put down a blanket and asked someone to watch it while I went to out to put on the gear. Turns out he was a retired taper. EasyEd joined me and we recorded the first band. Wasn't too crowded, yet. Sound was horrible although listening to recordings they are pretty good. For Lenny Kravitz it got much more crowded but still tolerable. Surrounded by mostly good people but some right in front were not. Finally for U2 it got very crowded. Sound was still not right but I can't control that. I recorded U2 at the same venue twice in 1987 and once in 1992 and the sound was much much better. Obviously those recordings were superior. I wish U2 would spend more on sound and less on stage architecture. I think Glastonberry will be best show on tour for that reason. The Claw stays on tour and they fly with instruments to UK. Only glitches on recording are one slight bump from a person taking pics to my left and one in Sunday Bloody Sunday when EasyEd hit my mics taking pictures. Not aperfect recording and one that probably is not too friendly to cheap steros or Ipods due to heavy low end. Comments: Bono tells the crowd that U2 hung out with Green Day and Metallica a night earlier and talked about creating a new music festival. Lou Reed is at the show, prompting Larry to sing a bit of Perfect Day before Bono leads the crowd in singing Happy Birthday for a friend named John. He dedicates Pride to the Shriver family. After 'Streets', Bono brings a fan from Poland on stage - a guy who flew 20 hours to be at this show.
