Notes: Cds ripped (artwork included)and uploaded on u2 torrent by Mauxworld ( January 2008) U2torrents.com: Torrent 3631 (by Mauxworld) Flom Comments: Track 1 could be a raw form of the US Mix of this song. The guitar is very heavily distorted. Some keyboard and percussion is included. Track 2 features a totally different keyboard part by Wally Badarou, which sounds strange but interesting. Tracks 3 and 4 are from U2's debut on the long running TV rock show. Tracks 5, 6, 8 are GREAT! I have never heard these songs in such an amazing stereo quality. The quality of Track 7 is slightly worse than tracks 5, 6, 8. It includes the English words instead of the "mystic" German part. Track 10 is the ONLY time this song has EVER been played live. Track 11 seems to be live, though no crowd noise can be heard, but Bono announces the song somehow. Track 12 is a horrible country song, but a nice unplugged performance of it. On tracks 13-18, the guitar sounds HORRIBLE! It is a nice performance otherwise. "Exit" is without the "G-L-O-R-I-A" part from the version on the movie 'Rattle And Hum'. They totally fuck up on 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)'. All I have to say about tracks 19 and 20 is. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???". The cover says, "L. Mullen solo. Aussie Radio, November 14th, 1989." This is really a weird thing! Does anyone know something about these? "Twist And Shout" sounds exactly like the Beatles' version, only very fast. Is Larry only drumming? Is he also singing? I don't know. Tracks 21 and 22 are from the 'Rattle And Hum' outtakes videos. These are raw versions with a Hammond organ and female background choir. "Can't Help Falling In Love" is performed by Bono WITHOUT his falsetto voice. Hope that helped! Nice collection. The cover features an early shot of the band imposed on black and white brick path with purple lettering. Bootleggers have been compiling U2 stuff of late with B-sides, duets, covers, dance mixes and a whole series of MELON remixes. FOUR WILD IRISH ROSES concentrates on broadcast, studio recordings and live rarities. The main attraction here are the four unreleased pre-Boy songs from 1978. They all carry with them the influences of the period, a hard rock beat, chunky guitar solos and a macho Bono voxing away. U2 had still to learn how to dramatize with punctuated guitars and quiet elegance. "The Dream Is Over," with The Edge indulging in an echoey style is worthy of release on a future box set. The '81 broadcast sessions, with Kid Jensen and the Old Grey Whistle Test might bore you with their faithful copy of "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" and "The Ocean." The alternate take of ""October" has a beautiful Wally Bararou keyboard sequence. Two Larry Mullen radio sessions covering "Twist And Shout" and "It's All Over Now," from Australian radio 1989, sound like karaoke to me. Awful. The Belfast concert has one highlight in a version of Neil Young's "Southern Man," all earthy and raw with great guitar from The Edge. Otherwise the show is pretty tame with U2 sticking close to the three-minute-limit song. The 1987 Sun Studio sessions, "Trip Through Your Wires / She's A Mystery To Me" and "Can't Help Falling In Love," have seen better days, in the sound department, elsewhere. FOUR WILD IRISH ROSES PART 1 had four takes of "Two Hearts Beat As One" while FOUR WILD IRISH ROSES PART 2 opens with yet another take. Those with a brave heart should pick up the TWO HEARTS BEAT AS ONE bootleg for the complete 13 takes in excellent sound quality. But otherwise, like this compilation, the music hardly moves you. This is the original pressing on this label.
