03.11.1989 New Zealand, Auckland, Airport Auckland Press Conference PAL PRO SHOT 1 DVD menu, 1 chapter 01. Auckland Press Conference Total Running Time: [29:19] Source: 10/10 proshot Notes: Firstly, let me make this clear - this is a PRESS CONFERENCE. Reporters ask the band questions and they reply. There's no singing, no performing, no concert. That aside, if you want to hear the band talk for about thirty minutes, this is just what the doctor ordered. Most of the time, the quality is absolutely perfect. At a couple of points, footage drops out and some stuff at the end would seem to be cut, but it's basically complete and makes for wonderful viewing if you're into this sort of thing. Bono and Edge do most of the talking and invite BB King into the interview somewhere past the halfway mark. They talk on all kinds of topics and sometimes make jokes. Curiously, near the end, the cameraman turns to film some guy in the crowd (Might it be Paul McGuinness? I forget what he looks like) and sometimes you can hear him whispering to other people, including asking someone to move their head at the start, but excluding that, it's 10/10. On the issue of dates, one would first assume it is from the 9th, seeing U2 played in Wellington on the 8th and then Auckland on the 10th. However, one of Bono's comments places it before the Christchurch gig on the 4th, and I imagine they would have been in Christchurch by then, so it is on some day between the 1st and 3rd. If you know the details of U2's movements around New Zealand on the Lovetown tour and could place the date of this press conference, please e-mail me. Obviously, there is no setlist.
